They should at least let them know what happened, did it go to the company, reviewed then turned down. It should not be about selling resume. Unemployed don't have $200 to pay for resume making. We are all bombarded that there are jobs, companies are hiring but when you applied and you are not interested in their money making resume, most likely they will not even bother what happened to the positions you applied for. It is wrong. We applied and spent time, the employment agencies should give them the updates whether they are interested with you or not. That is mostly the complains of the applicants, no one ever bother to get back to them. But they took all the info about you: address, email, phone. These are important informations that can be sold to marketing companies. I hope not.

Re: So… tell me about yourself.

I am frustrated by the first question. I would like recruiters to know that I approach each work day with optimism and enthusiasm. However, my situation over the last two years has been either fully unemployed, temporarily employed, or underemployed. So, I am actively seeking new employment. None of the response options to the question "How do you feel about going to work every day?" are fully appropriate in reflecting my situation. Can you clarify what recruiters are actually seeking to learn through this question?
Re: What not to do with your resume

I had an interview set for today with one of your "elite group of skilled professionals who are hand-selected, trained, monitored and mentored by TheLadders.com", and I am quite appalled that you sent me someone that had no experience in my field. Why do interviews have to take place in some office where one person is usually sitting behind a desk. Why not at the coffee shop or some where more relaxed. Interviews are hard for both sides. The employers really do not want to listen to ten people talk about themselves all day. The applicant really is trying to read between the lines for what they think is being asked. Most applicants walk out of the office thinking that they "Just Blew It." If everyone were more relaxed then it may go better for both.

Re: So… tell me about yourself.

Another thing that anoys me is to spend an hour completing an application to receive an email that says, "Thanks for submitting your application. If an employer wants to know if someone is willing to travel to Europe they should ask."Would you be willing to travel to Europe? If Yes why and if No why". Someone may have a fear of flying and if they feel that they are going to be forced to travel by flying then they may not really go after the position that only wants to know if they would travel to another town to conduct training.

Re: So… tell me about yourself.

Marc, Just for clarity: We should answer the "tell me about yourself" question w/ what's on our profile page? That would make it short & sweet. I always feel like I'm babbling and unsure if I'm telling the person what they want to hear.

Re: Leonardo da Vinci’s Resume

What I wanna know is, did he get the job, and his desired starting salary?
Re: These recruiters are hiring!

You handled Fred Brilliantly. I wasn't sure the resume was this old, nor that da Vinci was credited with this creation. Isn't it ironic that today's common advice to tailor your resume is EXACTLY what he did? As a well-known figure in his day, I'm not sure he needed to highlight his achievements like the rest of us - but your point is well taken. We're creating infographic resumes at www.nuzume.com, and we're always inspired by creative thought. 'wile' reading through The Book you might also want to take a look at Matthew 22:15-22. Surely I take it out of context. However, millions have quoted and interpreted The Book - so why not this humble Preachers Kid.

I've used numerous resources available at no-charge on TheLadders.com. I am SO appreciative of what they do and how they do it. I've learned a lot - at the expense of those who pay to support their efforts. The 'free' Internet has squeezed the perceived value out of many services we used to only be able to get for a fee. Sites like TheLadders.com have also made this information available anywhere, anytime.

In America nothing is free. SOMEBODY is paying.

Much of my life has been spent as an advocate for Libraries. Remember getting in your car, walking or taking the bus to that beautiful old building? It's not free either. You and I pay for the privilege to access the information within - and now via the Internet - outside those walls. I go to the Library because I trust the information. And when I have questions there's a trained Professional ready to assist. There is plenty of resume help, career advice and the tools for access available to all.

In America nothing is free. SOMEBODY is paying.

You could simply 'Google, Bing, or Yahoo' the Resume help you need.. that's not free either. SOMEBODY is paying for the placement of the search results. You went to TheLadders.com because you trust the information. You know the source. You must trust it or you wouldn't have taken the time and effort to get to the point where they are asking you to do your part to support the efforts and build their business. $400.00 to get your resume to float to the top of that monster-heap of papyrus is a price I've considered paying.

In America nothing is free. SOMEBODY is paying.

Go to a book store or Amazon.com. There are some incredible resources available. Without paying - you'll get through that first chapter and then.. POOF. You have to pay for the good stuff.

I could go on and on. I hope you get my point without taking great offense. My intention was not to argue. I did point out your spelling error. Feel free to pick apart my horrible grammar and any misspellings the 'free' spell checker didn't catch. I pointed out the spelling error for a reason. Have you ever sent your resume or any other important document and then realized you've made an embarrassing boo-boo? My friend - I have! OWIE! I bet TheLadders.com wouldn't let that happen with my resume or yours. And the fact that one of their clients has helped pay the fee for this built-in spell checker helps make my point.

Best wishes to you and your climb 'up the ladder'. As for me.. I'm looking forward to the view from the top rung. I just might need to pay $400 to have somebody from TheLadders.com 'spot' me.

Re: What not to do with your resume

Are you CRAZY? $395.00 to re-write my resume!
Why don't you read the Bible once in a wile? Don't you know that you are NOT supposed to be taking advantage of those in need?
You say that you can find me a decent job, then do it.
